About Victor

I was born and raised in Oklahoma, and have been transplanted to Texas since 1996 on a 3 acre plot near McKinney, Texas. Since high school, I had dreamed of having a Borzoi. I took a detour, and actually competed in dog obedience in the late 70’s with Lhasa Apso’s, so Borzoi obedience really didn’t seem to be an extreme sport!

In 1987, I actually acquired my first two Borzoi and started the Viktor Borzoi Kennel. Snapper and Abby were my special dogs that Sara Whittington of Chataqua Borzoi let own me. Of course, the ones I liked had to be show dogs! I really just wanted Borzoi and maybe do a little obedience with them. But, Sara gave me these two special guys that, with her help, both finished their AKC championships and ASFA field championships. Snapper also finished his CD obedience title and is an original inductee into the BCOA Versatility Hall of Fame. So, not only was I hooked on the Borzoi, but now competing at all venues and representing the breed was important, too.

Since the start in 1987, I have strived to benefit the Borzoi breed with well rounded dogs that can perform everywhere. My Borzoi have been in conformation, obedience, agility, therapy, and all field events. Over 80% of my Champions also are Field Champions. Then, in the late 1990’s my Borzoi brought me Lynn, and we eventually merged our kennels and our hearts together. We have the same goals for our kennel, and the rest is history (see the About Gryffyn's Aeyrie page).

I have been a member of numerous organizations and clubs related to the dog Fancy. I was a member of the Oklahoma City Obedience Training Club for many years, and was the “puppy” trainer for several years. I am a former member of the Sooner Agility Club, serving as Vice President for multiple years as well as the Greater Collin Kennel Club (former V.P.). Currently I serve as Treasurer for the the Lone Star Borzoi Club, being a founding member. I am also a member of the Borzoi Club of America, Gazehounds in Texas (GIT - current President), and the International Silken Windhound Society and I contribute my spare time regularly for many club endeavors.
