Rabrega's Diamond in the Rough
Garr's Lady Anastasia

On Tuesday, April 11, 2006 the heart of Gryffyn's Aeyrie was stilled with the passing of its matriarch and grande dame, Nikki. She leaves behind several children and grandchildren who bring joy and comfort to us and those who share their homes with them.

Nikki came into my family in August of 1992. She is my first borzoi and my first champion. We took a long time to get there due to handler problems (myself), work conflicts and lack of faith due to both. When she was brought back out just before her fourth birthday, she achieved an owner-handled 3-point major the hard way by taking Best of Winners and getting the points on the dog's side. Shown intermittently, she earned her championship in September 1997 in Tyler, Texas, after having gone Reserve (to a currently top 10 bitch) three of four days at the San Antonio River Cluster just three weeks before.

Mr. J.D. Jones, the judge who finished her, remarked to me as we got ready to snap our championship picture that he missed seeing bodies like hers on bitches.

Nikki with Lynn and DanuNikki attended the 1999 National Specialty held in Denver, CO. She was just a bit shy of being eligible for the Veterans' classes, so she was entered as a special. She placed in the top 15 of almost 300 borzoi. I was very proud of her accomplishments that day. She had been brought for fun because she loves to show, and she definitely gave her all on that day.

Nikki was introduced to straight racing as a veteran in April 2000. She took third both times, out of 12 the first day and 9 the second, and has earned points towards her GRC title.

Nikki is the mother of my first champion, Ch. Gryffyn's Bohemian Rhapsody, JC - aka Freddi. Other get include IABCA Am. Can. Ch. Gryffyns Once N' Future King, JC SGRC (Arthur), Ch. Gryffyns In T' Shadow of T' Oak King (Merlyn), Ch. Gryffyns The Road to Avalon (Perci) and IABCA Ch. Gryffyns The Last Enchantment (Danu). Her last litter was sired by BIS BISS DC Teine Windmaster of Foxwood, and includes Am. Can. Mex. Ch. Gryffyns Aeyrie Caliburn, JC (Burni) and Ch. Gryffyns Aeyrie Anduril, JC (Duri).

Nikki at the Reno National

At the 2003 National Specialty in Reno, NV, Nikki won her competitive Veteran Bitch (over 10 years) class, and at the BCNC Specialty took Best Veteran Bitch. At the 2004 BCOA Centennial National Specialty, Nikki won 4th place in a large and competitive Brood Bitch class, with Duri and Burni representing her.

In 2004, Nikki received the title of ROM-C, a Register of Merit Award based on requirements set forth by the Borzoi Club of America.

She may not be the most "fashionable" bitch at the end of a leash, but she's got the substance I desire and beautiful movement. I am very proud of this foundation bitch of Gryffyn's Aeyrie!
